About Me

A brief history of my previous work during my college days…

My name is Harrison Pearce and I am currently studying a journalism course at Coventry university where im going to learn all the skills I need to turn me into a professional for when I leave in three years time.

I am an aspiring sports journalist especially in football because I love watching mostly every game I can and playing the sport with my friends at least once a week. Im a massive Aston Villa fan where I get so excited to watch there games over any other team in the world. I have also got into basketball over the past two years as well so I would be interested in covering something around the sport in the future if I received the opportunity.

I spent four years at Stratford upon avon college on a media course where I learnt multiple skills such as team work, communication, camera work, editing skills, photography, producing short films and radio dramas to make a few which I can take into university and build upon what I have already learnt.

For my FMP on my first year I created a five minute healthy eating documentary where I wanted to focus on comparing the differences between fast food and finding healthy alternatives. I undertook an interview with a dietitian where I asked all types of questions around healthy eating and even went to my little brothers school to create a few voxpops for the parents to find out there take on healthy eating. Overall, I was really proud of the documentary that I made which was confirmed when I received a distinction for it.

For this project we were in groups of four where each of us had to come up with a silent film idea and as a group we chose to do The Duel For the Jewel. This silent film was about a thief trying to steal a logo jewel via the location of our college. During this project I played a part of a security guard, I was also a camera operator for the scenes I wasn’t included in and I finally edited the silent film during the post production stage.

For this project we were put into groups of five where we all came together to write a script for a radio drama based on a school murder mystery. I played the role of the teacher who ended up being the murderer (sorry for the spoiler.) We had to record them in two separate parts which resulted in being approximately 15 minutes.

I had a lot of fun during this project because I learnt how to write a 5-10 page script, I learnt how to record sound effects and how to write character profiles for example. Then we had to create a 30 min live radio show where we would play the two parts and then discuss them with the breaks in between the first and second part. We would all try to predict who we thought the murderer was and then spoke about what happened at the end of the show.

Here is the first look at my sports-related YouTube channel, where I want to deep dive into one specific subject from a key football, F1, and NBA talking point as well as analyzing the game. Other video ideas could be ranking football players in key positions, talking about their most recent form, or ultimate football team XI from the “big 6,” for example.

I want the YouTube channel under an sports related name like we had for the benchwarmers podcast which I can promote on social media. Then I can use my main account to promote it as well because I don’t want to overload my instagram account with YouTube content. I think I want to keep my main account to show everything that I am up to instead of just focusing on one area. For the setup, I think I need to book out DGI microphones for better audio quality and I will mix and match between recording in my bedroom and the radio studio. I turned down the exposure on my phone but it is a little bit to dark so next time I need to put the setting at 0.5 instead of 1
